Contemporary photography does not suffer from a lack of images. It suffers from a lack of ways of seeing. Billions of photographs are produced every day. Many of them flawless, but forgettable. Technique has become accessible, aesthetics replicable, approval instant.

But none of this has made photography more necessary. It has only made it more predictable. We don’t believe the problem is learning to photograph better. We believe the problem is learning to look differently.

This is why the Educational program and all of Door’s activities were not created to teach a style, but to help every photographer question their own.

We don’t want to produce more beautiful images or books— we want to contribute to the birth of works that have a reason to exist.

We live in a system that “continuously domesticates the gaze”. Algorithms, trends, presets, tutorials, likes, awards, contests.

They all push toward images that are recognizable, repeatable, reassuring. We, instead, work in the opposite direction.
